•   Ezhuthachan samajam history
..........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
Akhila Kerala Ezhuthachan Samajam represents 15 lakh plus Ezhuthachan Community Members spread over Trichur, Palakad, Kozhikode & Malappuram districts and also the national and international diastaro. Samajam started functioning from 1906 onwards. The first organizer was a Sanskrit scholar & a teacher Mr.Chakkulliyal Kunjunni Ezhuthachan who was a disciple of legendary Sanskrit scholar and teacher. Revered Punnassery Neelakanda Sharma was known as popular “Punnassery Nambi”. He named the organization as “Adhyapaka Samajam”. His efforts were not successful and he abandoned his project. Ezhuthachan samajam came in to being as a reality when Late Vakil P Kumaran Ezhuthachan entered the arena..Kumaran Ezhuthachan was a titan who rode like a colossus in the erstwhile Cochin politics. He was the 5 times member in the erstwhile Cochin legislative council. He was the real founder of the Ezhuthachan Samajam and architect of the present day Ezhuthachan community, He not only championed the cause of Ezhuthachan community but also worked tirelessly for the liberation and the upliftment of the entire downtrodden masses. He was also a freedom fighter, a member of the congress party and also in Cochin State Prajamandal, whose founder was Sri.V.R.Krishnan Ezhuthachan, his son-in-law. Later Mr.Krishnan Ezhuthachan stepped in to the shoes of his mentor and father-in-law, Mr. Kumaran Ezhuthachan as Ezhuthachan Samajam president. Since both were immersed in Congress politics, freedom movement, peasant struggles and also in Cochin state Prajamandal, they found it difficult to continue in the Ezhuthachan Samajam movement. Towards late 1940’s Krishnan Ezhuthachan left the movement, so also Vakil. P. Kumaran Ezhuthachan. Kumaran Ezhuthachan left the movement after a personal tragedy - The death of his son P.Lakshmanakumar. After 1947 the Ezhuthachan community was orphaned and community became rudderless. There were some attempts to revitalize the community by some spirited people; but it didn’t reach anywhere. The services of Adv. Late M.Krishnankutty is to be mentioned in this context. In the Post era, from 1990’s onwards there were some resurgence in the community. From late 1990’s new thinking is visible in the community. From 2002, Mr.T.G.Ravi came in to the scene and revitalized the samajam activities. The present president Prof. Dr. Lakshmanakumar in the grand son of Vahil. P. Kumaran Ezhuthachan and son of V R. Krishnan Ezhuthachan.

•   Ezhuthachan Community History
..........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
Present day Ezhuthachan community owes origin to the migration of 8 families ( Ettuveettukar) to the Malabar cost. In “Pattarnadakkavu” in Malappuram district near Thirunavaya according to Kozhikode Zamorins Chronicle (Grandhavari). This migration occurred in AD 1428 January 5 (Kadukathyathra Sthayal) as per kali dating system. They were of highly qualified, and cultured, civilized group of people. They were ousted from erstwhile Chola-Pallava-Vijayanagara kingdoms for unknown reasons. They had a glorious Jaina or Buddhist past. They abandoned their original faith on or before or after their arrival in Pattarnadakkavu. It was the eldest female family member of Zamorin’s family, known as ‘Ambadi Kovilakam’ who gave the title of Ezhuthachan and profession of teaching and educating hither to unlettered Sudras. Later under the influence of certain conspirtors led by Zamorin’s Chief minister known as Mangattachan, the status of Ezhuthachan community was demoted to the status of lower Sudras. Formerly they were above the Sudras. With this movement they became lower to Sudras. Sufferings of Ezhuthachan community started from this point and still it continues.
